Sven Albrecht 1 April 2026. He will oversee programmes across 58 countries in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.
Albrecht brings more than 20 years of experience with the Special Olympics movement and is currently the National Director of Special Olympics Germany. He played a leading role in delivering the highly successful Special Olympics World Summer Games Berlin 2023, which featured 26 sports, 1,300 competitions and 4,000 medals. The nine-day event involved 18,000 volunteers, attracted 330,000 visitors, delivered 800 hours of competition and 400 hours of live broadcast through an 11-member media alliance. More than 100,000 tickets were sold, while 15,000 Healthy Athletes® screenings were conducted.
Following the success of Berlin 2023, Albrecht secured long-term public funding along with strong private-sector partnerships, resulting in significant political support for Special Olympics Germany.
