India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After winning the toss, New Zealand decided to bowl first against India.
Batting first, India posted a massive total of 255 for 5 in 20 overs, thanks to brilliant batting performances from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma. Sanju Samson scored 89 runs off 46 balls, while Ishan Kishan made 54 runs from 24 balls and Abhishek Sharma smashed 52 runs off 21 balls. Shivam Dube remained unbeaten with 26 runs from 8 balls.
For New Zealand, James Neesham took three wickets, while Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra picked up one wicket each.
In reply to the target of 256 runs, New Zealand were bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs.
For New Zealand, Tim Seifert scored 52 runs and captain Mitchell Santner contributed 43 runs, but they could not guide their team to victory against India’s huge total.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets, while Axar Patel claimed three wickets.
With this victory, India successfully defended their T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team to do so in the tournament’s history. India had previously won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and 2024, and with this win they have now become the most successful team in T20 World Cup history with three titles.
