triumphing with a splendid performance by bowling out Pakistan for just 89 runs in the first innings and securing a commanding lead of 360 runs.
Pakistan faced an unexpected setback in winning their first Test in Australia since 1995, as a result of impressive bowling by spinner Nathan Lyon and the formidable pace attack of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, who wrapped up the match in just four days.
With a lead of 450 runs, the visiting Lions displayed a dominant performance, with Lyon taking 2-18 and Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood each claiming three wickets.
After being stuck at 499 runs following Pakistan’s first innings, Lyon finally crossed the milestone when he dismissed Fawad Alam for LBW, although a nerve-wracking wait ensued as the decision went for review.
Following this, in the same over, Lyon bowled out Aamer Jamal, who had recently joined the elite club of players, including Sri Lanka’s spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan and Australia’s Shane Warne.
In response to the host team’s total of 487 runs, Pakistan managed to score 271 runs in their first innings before getting bowled out. Australia declared their second innings at 233-5 on the fourth day.
Captain Pat Cummins took charge when opener Osman Khawaja, after a partnership of 126 runs with Mitchell Marsh, fell for 90 runs on a crumbling pitch.
Marsh remained unbeaten with 63 runs when Pakistan, in a bid to boost their morale early in the day, dismissed Steve Smith and Travis Head, bringing a quick end to their innings.
