Dharamshala: In a thrilling Cricket World Cup match, Netherlands stunned fans by defeating South Africa.
In the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, another upset emerged as Netherlands defeated South Africa by 38 runs.
In the match, Netherlands managed to score 246 runs, while South Africa’s entire team collapsed at 207 runs in 42.5 overs. Previously, Afghanistan had surprised cricket enthusiasts by defeating defending champions England by 69 runs in the same event.
Netherlands successfully restricted South Africa’s batting line-up to a low score. No player other than David Miller managed to make a significant score. Openers Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma contributed 20 and 16 runs, respectively, before getting dismissed. South Africa’s third wicket fell at a total of 42 runs. Aiden Markram made just 1 run and was out at 44 runs in total. Rassie van der Dussen added 4 runs to the scoreboard, and their innings continued to falter.
Heinrich Klaasen scored 28 runs, Marco Jansen 9 runs, and David Miller top-scored with 43 runs, but they eventually succumbed to the pressure. Gerald Coetzee managed 22 runs, and Kagiso Rabada contributed 9 runs before getting out. Keshav Maharaj scored 40 runs, while Lungi Ngidi remained not out with 7 runs.
Prior to this, Netherlands had batted first and managed to score 245 runs with the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 43 overs. Captain Scott Edwards played a prominent role with 78 runs, leading his team to victory.
