AB de Villiers retired from international cricket in 2018, though he continued playing franchise cricket until 2021. However, he decided to completely step away from all forms of cricket later that year.

His last match was for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

Now, AB de Villiers has announced that he will represent and captain the South Africa Champions in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends later this year.

The World Championship of Legends is a T20 tournament featuring retired and unsigned cricket legends.

Reflecting on his comeback decision, de Villiers said, “Four years ago, I retired from all forms of cricket as I no longer felt the desire to play. But time has passed, and my son has started playing cricket as well.

“Now, it feels like the passion for the game is reigniting within me. That’s why I’m back in the gym and nets, preparing to play in the World Championship of Legends in July.”

The news of de Villiers’ return has thrilled cricket fans, who are eagerly looking forward to watching the versatile batter in action once again.
