Hyderabad:In a fitting tribute to her path-breaking career, Sania Mirza played her last matches as a professional tennis player at the Lal Bahadur Tennis Stadium, where she had announced her arrival on the big stage nearly two decades ago. The emotional farewell ceremony saw Sania play mixed doubles exhibition games with Rohan Bopanna, Yuvraj Singh, and Bethanie Mettek Sands, and win both of them. The event was attended by dignitaries such as Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and former Indian cricket team captain Mohammed Azharuddin. Sania, who was visibly moved during her farewell speech, expressed her gratitude for having the opportunity to represent her country for 20 years. The stadium, adorned with banners celebrating her legacy, was filled with fans holding placards thanking her for the memories and bidding her a fond farewell.
