Iran has imposed sanctions on its weightlifter Mustafa Rezayi for shaking hands with an Israeli athlete as a reward for his gesture.
Iranian weightlifter Mustafa Rezayi had secured the second position in the international weightlifting competition, and he had shaken hands with an Israeli athlete who had secured the third position, and they even took a picture together.
In light of this handshake and photo, Iran has imposed sanctions on Mustafa Rezayi for engaging with the Israeli athlete. Additionally, Iran’s Weightlifting Federation has initiated an inquiry into the matter.
