India’s former cricket captain, 36-year-old Virat Kohli, has announced his sudden retirement from Test cricket.
In a message shared on social media, Kohli stated, “It has been 14 years since I first wore the white jersey.” He added that retiring from this format was not an easy decision, but he felt it was the right time.
Fans and cricket enthusiasts are congratulating Kohli on an illustrious career, though many have expressed sadness over his decision. Kohli played 111 Test matches, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.8. He ranks fourth on the list of India’s highest Test run-scorers, behind only Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,265), and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122).
Kohli’s announcement comes just a month before India’s scheduled tour of England, adding significance to the timing of his decision.
