Sydney: India and Australia faced heavy penalties in the World Test Championship final.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), both teams were penalized for slow over rates, with the Indian team being fined the full match fee.
ICC stated that no player from the Indian team will receive any match fee, while the Australian team has been penalized 80% of the match fee based on the slow over rate. The Indian team took 5 hours to complete the stipulated overs, while the Australian team fell short by 4 overs.
As per ICC regulations, penalties are imposed on each player for slow over rates, with a 20% match fee penalty for each over.
On the other hand, Indian opener Shubman Gill also faced a penalty. Gill had criticized the umpire’s decision after being dismissed. He has been found guilty of a breach of ICC Article 2.4, and a 15% match fee penalty has been imposed on him.
