South African batter Matthew Breetzke has etched his name into cricket history by becoming the first player ever to score fifty-plus runs in each of his first five One Day Internationals (ODIs).

On Thursday, the young Proteas batter, who has played only five ODIs so far, continued his remarkable form by scoring 85 runs against England in the second ODI, securing another half-century and a unique milestone.

This innings marked his fifth consecutive fifty since making his debut, making him the only player in the world to achieve five fifty-plus scores in his first five ODIs.

Breetzke had announced his arrival in international cricket in February this year with a sensational 150 against New Zealand on debut. He followed it up with 83 against Pakistan in his second ODI, 57 in the third, and 88 in the fourth before his latest knock of 85 against England.

With 463 runs in just five ODIs, Breetzke has made a record-breaking start to his career.

Before him, India’s former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu held the record with four consecutive fifties after his ODI debut in 1987.
