New Delhi: Elite wrestlers protesting in India have announced a plan to go on a hunger strike at India Gate.

According to Indian media, Delhi Police has decided not to grant permission for a hunger strike at India Gate. Delhi Police has stated that if the wrestlers seek permission for demonstrations, an alternate location will be suggested to them.

Previously, on the occasion of the inauguration of the new building of the Indian Parliament on Sunday, wrestlers had announced a protest outside Parliament House. However, the police not only denied them permission to protest but also resorted to violence and arrested them.

The United World Wrestling (UWW), the global governing body of wrestling, has issued a statement condemning the arrest of wrestlers and taking note of the situation. The UWW has criticized the federation’s president for not bringing the investigations to light.

The United World Wrestling has stated that if elections are not held within 45 days, the Indian Wrestling Federation will be suspended. The treatment of the wrestlers and keeping them under custody is deplorable, and they demand a thorough investigation into the allegations.

According to Indian media, the wrestlers have given a five-day ultimatum for negotiations and resolving the issues through dialogue.
