Pakistan achieved a significant victory over India in sports diplomacy, with Pakistan’s Khalid Mahmood defeating India’s Ajay Singh to be elected as a member of the Asian Boxing Board of Directors. Khalid Mahmood secured 18 votes against Ajay Singh’s 9 in the elections held during the Asian Boxing Congress in Thailand.
Khalid Mahmood, who serves as the Secretary General of the Pakistan Olympic Association, said this success reflects growing confidence in Pakistan’s sports leadership at the Asian level. Pakistan’s inclusion in the Asian Boxing Board is expected to boost regional cooperation.
President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation, Lt Col (R) Nasir Tung, congratulated Khalid Mahmood, calling the victory over India a matter of pride for Pakistan. He added that the Pakistan Boxing Federation is helping strengthen Pakistan’s position in international sports. According to him, Mahmood’s election is both a testament to Pakistan’s positive image and a success for sports diplomacy.
