Lahore Qalandars suffer sixth defeat, Multan Sultans triumph led by Usman Khan’s crucial role

In a crucial match of the 14th fixture of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9, Multan Sultans secured a victory against Lahore Qalandars by 60 runs. Multan’s Usman Khan showcased a blazing batting performance, scoring 96 runs off 55 balls, while Osama Mir claimed 6 wickets with destructive bowling.

The match took place at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Winning the toss, Multan Sultans’ captain Mohammad Rizwan opted to bat first against Lahore Qalandars and set a score of 214 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Sultans’ batsmen confidently pushed the score ahead, with Usman Khan reaching a fifty with rapid batting. Additionally, Iftekhar Ahmed contributed significantly alongside Usman Khan.

Usman Khan fell just 4 runs short of his century and got out nervously in the final over. He scored 96 runs off 55 balls, including 2 sixes and 11 fours.

Iftekhar Ahmed scored 40 runs off 18 balls with the help of 3 sixes.

Furthermore, Multan’s Reza Hendricks scored 40 and Tayyab Tahir scored 21 runs, putting up notable performances.

Lahore Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Shah Afridi took 2 wickets, while Sikandar Raza and Carlos Brathwaite took one wicket each.

In pursuit of a target of 215 runs, Lahore Qalandars’ entire team collapsed at 154 runs in 17 overs. Defending champions Lahore Qalandars faced a defeat by 60 runs, marking their consecutive sixth loss in the tournament.

No Lahore Qalandars player could stand against spinner Osama Mir’s onslaught, and wickets kept falling at regular intervals with the fall in runs.

From Lahore’s side, Sahibzada Farhan scored 31, Van Der Dosen scored 30, and Fakhar Zaman scored 23 runs, showing prominent batting performances.

Multan Sultans’ Osama Mir claimed 6 wickets with his destructive bowling.

It’s worth noting that Lahore Qalandars had to face defeat in five consecutive matches before this encounter, marking this as their sixth consecutive loss, while Multan Sultans had secured victories in four out of five matches and have now achieved success in their fifth encounter as well.
