Karachi, Pakistan – The National Games Torch for the 34th National Games 2023 was officially kindled during a vibrant ceremony at Quaid-e-Azam Mazar on May 6th, 2023. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey that will inspire and unite the nation in the celebration of sports and unity.
During the ceremony, Mr. Babar Yousafzai and Mr. Durra Baloch of the Government of Balochistan received the Torch from Mr. Muhammad Jahangir, Deputy Secretary General POA, signaling the start of the Olympic Torch Relay. Olympian Hockey player, Mr. Islahuddin Siddiqui, and other international athletes carried the Torch at Quaid-e-Azam Mazar according to the traditions of the Olympic Games.
The Torch was then transported to Iqra University, where it was received by Dr. Wasim Qazi, Vice Chancellor/President of Iqra University, during a grand ceremony. Mr. Saeed Ghani, Minister for Information, Labor & Human Resources, Government of Sindh, was the Chief Guest at the event.
After the Iqra University ceremony, the Torch was transported to Sir Syed University, where it was handed over to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin, during another ceremony. Dr. Syed Saif Ur Rehman, Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, was the chief guest.
The Torch will now be carried by the representative of the Government of Balochistan to Peshawar, where the KP Olympic Association will host the next leg of the Olympic Torch Relay. The Torch Relay aims to promote harmony, friendship, and unity among the provinces and the country. It will showcase Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, highlighting the significance of sports in promoting peace and harmony.
The National Games Torch for the 34th National Games 2023 marks an incredible milestone in Pakistan’s sports history, and we wish the KP Olympic Association all the best for the success of the event in Peshawar.
