Berlin, Germany: The German Consulate hosted a magnificent ceremony in recognition of the Special Olympics Pakistan team, who will be participating in the esteemed Special Olympics World Games held in Berlin from June 17 to 25, 2023.

With a staggering number of seven and a half thousand special athletes from across the globe participating in this mega event, the occasion was attended by prominent figures including Chief Secretary Sindh, Dr. Sohail Rajput, Consul Generals, diplomats from various countries, and other distinguished guests.

Expressing warm greetings, the host Consul General, Dr. Rüdiger Lotz, highlighted the significance of Germany hosting the Special Olympics World Games for the first time. He expressed hope for a grand and unforgettable event while expecting Pakistan to achieve commendable performances in the Games.

Ronak Lakhani, Chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals with special abilities as integral members of society. She stated that their participation in the Games aimed to demonstrate that special children from Pakistan are not inferior to anyone worldwide. Through their exemplary character and positive attitude, they aim to win hearts, and Lakhani called upon the nation to support and encourage these remarkable athletes. She expressed gratitude to the Sindh government for their unwavering support and cooperation in facilitating Pakistan’s participation in the Games, particularly acknowledging Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Chief Secretary Sindh, Dr. Sohail Rajput, asserted that special athletes possess incredible abilities and talents, regardless of mental or physical challenges. He emphasized the need to instill confidence and courage in them, with the Sindh government taking responsibility for providing continuous support to help them achieve laurels for the country. Rajput commended the Sindh government’s dedication to these special athletes, leaving no stone unturned in their support.

The event also featured addresses by renowned artist Sarwat Gilani, the brand ambassador of Special Olympics Pakistan, Yasmin Haider, and other notable personalities. Pakistan’s delegation, comprising 138 members, including 54 boys, 33 girls, and a team of 30 coaches, will depart for Germany on June 12 to compete in 11 sports during the Olympic Games.

The Berlin Special Olympics World Games, renowned as the largest inclusive sporting event globally, promises to be a celebration of talent, perseverance, and determination. Special Olympics Pakistan views this as a remarkable opportunity to showcase their exceptional abilities, resilience, and unwavering spirit, marking their 11th participation in an international event.
