President Donald Trump has announced that transgender athletes will not be allowed to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The World Athletics Federation has decided to make gender testing mandatory for female athletes. Any athlete wishing to participate in women’s categories at international ranking competitions will be required to undergo a gender verification test.

Athletes will only be required to take the “SRY” test once in their lifetime to confirm their gender. According to the World Athletics Federation, only those whose test results are negative will be eligible to participate in the women’s category.

This rule will come into effect from the World Athletics Championship starting on September 25. Athletes aiming to compete in the World Championship must submit their test results by September 1. The responsibility for conducting gender tests lies with the respective national federations.

It is worth noting that the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has barred transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports in line with an executive order signed by President Trump.

The U.S. Olympic Committee stated that it will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders while fulfilling its oversight responsibilities and ensuring a fair and safe competitive environment for women, in accordance with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act.

In February, President Trump signed an order aimed at keeping “biological men out of women’s sports,” effectively excluding transgender athletes from women’s competitions.

President Trump reiterated that transgender athletes would not be allowed to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The order also directs the Department of Justice to ensure that all government agencies enforce restrictions preventing transgender girls and women from competing in female school sports.
